"Strangle (Anubis Mix)" is arguably punk and not post-punk. However, the bittersweet and far too personal lyrics mark it as more typical of the latter. Overall, the romantic aspect has been thematically coupled with Ancient Egyptian Polytheism in the form the murder of Osiris by Seth, and his resurrection by Anubis; the weigher of hearts.
lyrics
You thought I would be angry
I thought you would be frightened
But I just came to, to say hello
To give it meaning - You feared condemnation
I thought concern and friendship were ideal
If looks could kill I’d strangle you
But you know that’s not, that’s not really what I want to do
If looks could kill you’d run away from me
Maybe it’s not, maybe it’s not that plain to see
Way back in those days
They told me misery loves company
But then again - Who really needs guests?
Sitting around listening to you,
Well you didn’t say very much
And even those days are long gone
If looks could kill I’d strangle you
But you know that’s not really, really what I want to do
If looks could kill you’d run away from me
Maybe it’s not that plain to see
You thought that you had wronged me - communication confused
Communication pushes you further in wrong directions
You thought and I thought, but we didn’t say
And that leaves us where we are today
If looks could kill I’d strangle you
But you know, know, know, that’s not what I want to do
If looks could kill you’d run away from me
Maybe it’s not that, maybe it’s not that plain to see
Way back in those days
Misery loves company
But then again - who needs guests?
Sitting around and listening to you
You didn’t say very much
And even those days are gone, gone, gone, gone, gone, gone…
If looks could kill I’d, I’d strangle you
If looks could kill I’d strangle you
But you know that’s not really, really what I want to do
If looks could kill I’d strangle you
But that’s not what I want to do,
That’s not, really what I want to do
If looks could kill I’d strangle you
But that’s not really what I want to do
