about

"Forever (Sixth Anniversary Edition)" is a 1990 solo recording of a demo originally recorded in 1984 for a music production class. Far too personal, yet also existential, "Forever" was the first "rock song" I ever wrote, and the original recording featured the earliest form of the band N.A.W.R. (see: Stubborn God Productions: Working Backwards). The entity for that session was comprised of Ira Aron Rosenblum (voice / guitar), Alex Ducomb (guitar), later film director Dominic DeJoseph (keyboard), and awesome percussionist Matthew Morano (drums). By the time the sixth anniversary version was recorded the piece had taken on a very different feel...one that is more at home with more typical post-punk combos of the late 1980's / early 1990's.

lyrics

Rain strikes the window and blurs the outside
Each drop makes the tress bend a different way
And as the wind howls again I long to hide
From the cold chill that grips me inside

Forcing words about another day and place
The ground pulls me down to remind me again
Oh, that I stood listening to the pounding of the rain
And you placed all of your trust within my face

But the clouds looked like a broken mirror
And I don’t even know how you feel at all
The rain stops for all of us, no matter what they say
And I couldn’t help leaving you hoping for another place and day

You may never know just how sorry I am
Now that I’ve sewn the hole in my conscience
Sometimes I wish I could have returned what you had given to me
On rainy days your friendship letters only make it – worse

I took you along and left you hoping
It must have seemed like forever
