about

"Andy Says (Early Version)" is a melodically straightforward folk-pop track that was recorded in 1987 and was probably influenced by contemporary post-punk bands such as Love & Rockets and The Church. Notably the piece lacks a bass guitar track but does feature a lead guitar line that is entirely played with an "e-bow".

lyrics

Nine o’clock on a Sunday night
And I know I never say things right
Dancing near you can almost be heaven
I want to fall into the pit of your eyes

And Andy says: “Let’s go out and have some fun”
“We’ll drink, and we’ll sweat, and we’ll see everyone”
“See everyone…be with everyone…meet everyone…see everyone”

In the dark, old kitchen
The faucet keeps track of my indecision
The pit in my stomach is the pit of your eyes
And the feeling makes me fall down
And Andy says “Let’s go out and have some fun”
“We’ll drink, and we’ll sweat, and we’ll see everyone”
“See everyone…be with everyone…meet everyone…see everyone”

You ask me what I want from you
And I never know what to say
But what I want if everything
My heart has been grabbed and squeezed

And Andy says “Let’s go out and have some fun”
“We’ll drink, and we’ll sweat, and we’ll see everyone”
“See everyone…be with everyone…meet everyone…see everyone”
